About the Role
Content Lab is the international-award-winning content marketing arm of SPH Media - and Brand Newsroom is a specialised unit within Content Lab that creates commissioned content through a newsroom lens.

In an era of dwindling attention spans and information overload, Brand Newsroom strives to seize attention with targeted native, cross-platform content that is credible, clear, and compelling.

Our unique selling point is to effectively bring clarity to complexity without being boring.


Brand Newsroom is looking for an exceptional talent to join our team as Assistant Editor on a 1-year contract.

You will play an important role in creating engaging audience-centric content that is relevant and relatable, and resonates with the audiences of The Straits Times, The Business Times, and other SPH Media news platforms.


Working with a team of editors and an army of contributors, you must have the ability to manage all the moving parts needed to bring a content project to life.

The job requires ideation, planning, project management, pitching, client management, and exceptional editing and writing skills.


Must play well with others.


Work collaboratively with the team to craft and refine ideas for stories, content series, concepts, themes; creating multiformat content that’s relevant to the audiences of both Chinese and English news titles
Project manage campaigns through their life cycles, editing and writing a range of stories, working with an internal team of editors and pool of freelancers
Gate-keep with a keen awareness of political, financial, social and legal minefields
Ensure content is produced to brief at highest quality; and evangelises use of in-house style guides
Write, edit, proofread and improve content; optimising copy and headlines for digital and social media according to best SEO practices
Craft effective and engaging social media copy
Work with sales and clients and help educate them on Brand Newsroom’s journalistic approach to storytelling
Manage deadlines and monitor budgets
Build a high-quality pool of contributors
Comply with media law and ethical guidelines
Who we are looking for
Minimum 5 years of demonstrated excellence in content creation, including digital and social media platforms
Newsroom experience is key
Excellent writing and editing skills
Excellent command of the English language.

Fluency in a second language is a bonus
A keen ability to think strategically
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Knowledge of SEO and social media best practices
Detail-oriented and a gift for multitasking to meet aggressive deadlines within budget requirements
Must work well with colleagues, while being able to lead the team to deliver results
Experience with content management systems such as Wordpress and Drupal, a plus
Please note that this position is for one-year contract.
