The Government Technology Agency (GovTech) is the lead agency driving Singapore’s Smart Nation initiatives and public sector digital transformation.[What you will be working on]
GovTech's AI Programme is seeking a strategic Assistant/Deputy Director of Design Management to lead the user experience vision for artificial intelligence adoption across the Singapore public sector.
This senior leadership role is responsible for building and managing a design team, defining design strategy for high-impact AI products, and collaborating with product and engineering leads to deliver user-centric solutions.
This position reports to the AI Programme Director and is integral to advancing Singapore's Smart Nation agenda.
Key Responsibilities
Experience Strategy & Vision:
Develop and drive the end-to-end user research and experience strategy for the AI Programme's products and platforms.
Identify key design opportunities in AI adoption through research and frame problems for new initiatives.
Serve as a core member of the AI programme leadership team with the focus on design and innovation.
Team Leadership & Development:
Build, manage, and mentor a high-performing team of designers.
Establish best practices and frameworks for user research, design development, and quality assurance.
Cultivate a team culture of creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Partner with Product, Engineering, and agency stakeholders to ensure alignment on user needs, technical feasibility, and policy requirements.
Provide strategic advice on AI-enabled product design and user-centricity.
Design Quality & Governance:
Define and enforce design quality standards, principles, and patterns for responsible and trustworthy AI solutions.
Develop toolkits and guidance to enable teams to achieve design excellence.
Establish metrics to measure the impact and usability of AI products.
[What we are looking for]
10 years or more of product design experience, with a strong portfolio showcasing work on complex systems (e.g., enterprise software, AI platforms, data tools).
Demonstrated experience building, managing, and mentoring design teams.
Expertise in establishing design processes, governance, and quality frameworks at scale.
Proven ability to translate user insights and organisational strategy into a clear design direction.
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence senior leadership.
Proficient in best practices for usability, accessibility (WCAG), and responsible AI design.
Experience with enterprise software or government digital services is a plus.
