Overview

The Associate Director, Technology & Operations (T&O) Regulatory Engagement & Advocacy supports the Global Head, T&O Governance in driving regulatory engagement and advocacy across T&O, including Technology & Architecture (T&A), Information & Cyber Security (ICS), Data and Resilience.

This role helps ensure that T&O engages with key regulators and provides high-quality, consistent regulatory responses aligned with the Group’s strategic objectives.

The incumbent helps drive regulatory horizon scanning and ensures T&O is abreast of current and emerging regulatory requirements across T&A, ICS, Data & AI, Resilience, and third-party management.

The role also drives engagement with regulators, manages correspondence, and monitors regulatory actions and obligations to ensure timely and effective resolution.

It supports T&O representation in key working groups and industry bodies to influence policy and regulatory discussions.

By driving a cohesive regulatory engagement and advocacy approach, the role strengthens risk management, enhances compliance with global standards, and reinforces T&O’s position as a trusted function in regulatory and governance matters.

Responsibilities

  • Strategy
    • Supports the Global Head, T&O Governance in developing and executing a regulatory engagement strategy that aligns with the objectives of T&O, covering all verticals: T&A, ICS, Data & AI, Resilience, and third-party management.

    • Helps ensure alignment of regulatory requirements with T&O’s strategic transformation agenda, including modernization, data governance, and resilience initiatives.

    • Maintains a comprehensive understanding of T&O’s risk profile, current regulatory requirements and emerging regulatory trends to anticipate and address challenges effectively.

  • Business
    • Supports the Global Head, T&O Governance in defining and executing a proactive regulatory engagement and advocacy plan to drive a consistent and timely understanding of the T&O strategy, focus areas, risk profile, challenges, and achievements.

    • Manages key regulatory engagements for T&O (e.g., PRA/FCA meetings, PRA annual visits, Bi-annual College of Regulators, CAM meetings).

    • Manages PRA/FCA correspondence (e.g., PRA Feedback Letters, PSMs) and monitors action items to ensure timely resolution and regular progress updates to regulators.

    • Drives a coherent regulatory narrative across key regulators and risk committees, and identifies areas that may adversely impact regulator relationships for proactive management.

    • Supports engagement approaches at MT-1 and MT levels to ensure clarity of regulatory narrative and escalation/reporting of risks.

    • Develops regulatory MI, reporting, and collateral to provide senior stakeholders with information needed for informed decision-making on regulatory engagement.

    • Demonstrates high-quality execution discipline and attention to detail in regulatory activities.

  • Processes
    • Executes and supervises regulatory engagement, advocacy, and horizon scanning processes to support the T&O Strategic Plan.

    • Manages correspondence with T&O’s key regulators and tracks regulatory actions and obligations to ensure timely resolution, providing progress updates as required.

    • Performs regulatory horizon scanning to stay abreast of current and emerging regulatory requirements across technology, ICS, data & AI, resilience, and third-party management.

    • Fosters collaboration with T&O stakeholders and external contacts (e.g., OTCR, regulatory bodies, industry bodies).

  • People & Talent
    • Enhances collaboration with T&O and non-stakeholders, fostering knowledge sharing, continuous learning, and high performance.

    • Encourages accountability so T&O teams own responsibilities for managing regulatory change.

    • Leads by example, shaping the culture and values and aligning tone and expectations across T&O teams and partners.

  • Risk Management
    • Partners with T&O stakeholders to identify, assess, and mitigate regulatory risks across technology, cybersecurity, data, and resilience.

    • Implements processes to escalate risks that may affect regulatory relationships or commitments.

    • Collaborates with T&O leaders to enhance regulatory risk awareness and alignment with the Group’s risk appetite and policies.

    • Identifies, escalates, mitigates and resolves risk, conduct, and compliance matters in a proactive, collaborative manner.

  • Governance
    • Supports the Global Head, T&O Governance in defining an engagement approach at MT-1 and MT levels to ensure clarity of regulatory narrative and escalation/reporting of risks.

    • Responsible for delivering regulatory governance reports as required.

  • Regulatory & Business Conduct
    • Displays exemplary conduct and adheres to the Group’s Values and Code of Conduct.

    • Ensures compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, guidelines, and the Group Code of Conduct.

    • Identifies, escalates, mitigates and resolves risk, conduct, and compliance matters collaboratively.

  • Our Ideal Candidate
    • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Risk Management, Law, Business Administration, Technology, or a related field.

    • Experience: 10+ years in regulatory engagement, regulatory advocacy, horizon-scanning, risk governance, non-financial risk management, or related field.

    • Track record of direct engagements with regulators, particularly in key markets (e.g., PRA).

    • Prior experience performing regulatory advocacy, horizon-scanning, or related activities.

    • Familiarity with regulatory expectations on technology risk, information & cybersecurity, operational resilience, data & AI, and third-party risk.

  • Qualifications
    • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Risk Management, Law, Business Administration, Technology, or a related field.

    • Understanding of managing regulatory change, especially in technology, information & cyber security, operational resilience, data & AI, and third party in a large (financial) institution.
