Job description

The Nanyang Business School at Nanyang Technological University invites applications for a faculty position at the Associate Professor (Practice) level in the Division of Banking and Finance.

We are seeking an experienced industry professional with a strong background in financial engineering, financial risk analytics, or related fields, who is passionate about bridging academic learning with real-world practice.

About the Division:

The Division of Banking and Finance (BF) is committed to research excellence.

Our faculty’s research is consistently featured in top finance and actuarial/insurance journals.

Based on publications in the top five actuarial science/insurance journals, BF is consistently ranked Top 5 among business schools worldwide.

The undergraduate programme currently offers two specialisations, Actuarial Science (ACS) and Risk Analytics (RA).

The ACS programme is the only programme in Singapore accredited by the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries and recognized by the Society of Actuaries as a Center of Actuarial Excellence (CAE).

We are also in the process of launching a new Quantitative Finance track within this programme.

The RA programme covers the Financial Risk Manager (FRM) exam curriculum and enhances students’ analytical skills for financial risk management.

The Insurance Risk & Finance Research Centre (IRFRC), which was established in 2011, sponsors and directs primary research on insurance and insurance-related risk research in Asia Pacific.

Qualifications:

  • A Master’s degree or preferably a PhD in Quantitative Finance, Financial Engineering, Actuarial Science, or a related field.
  • A minimum of ten years of industry experience in quantitative finance, financial engineering, investment banking, risk management, asset management, fintech, or related sectors.
  • Proven ability and/or strong passion for teaching and mentoring students in a university setting.
  • Strong network within the finance and risk industry that can be leveraged for curriculum development, student placement, and university-industry collaboration.
  • Key Responsibilities:

    Successful candidates will be expected to:

  • Contribute to the development, design, and teaching of a range of courses, including financial risk management, financial engineering, actuarial science, and other finance-related courses, at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
  • Bring professional industry insights to enhance the relevance and application of the curriculum.
  • Lead or support the continuous improvement and innovation of academic programmes in Quantitative Finance, Actuarial Science, and Risk Analytics.
  • Leverage strong professional networks to support student career development and job placement efforts.
  • Additionally, candidates must demonstrate service and scholarship through, but not limited to, good-quality publications, book chapters, written cases, pedagogical research, impactful creative works, or patents.
