Job Description
The Business Development Marketer will play a pivotal role in supporting Ampol’s ambitious trading business plan.
This role is responsible for developing, delivering and managing a pipeline of commercial opportunities to drive Ampol’s third‐party physical trade flows within the Asia Pacific region and globally.
The role will build and maintain strong commercial relationships with key industry counterparties, providing valuable insights into market trends, assets, and counterparties.
This role will also support the Traders in trading both physical products and financial derivatives, while contributing to the development of trading strategies to maximize profitability and manage associated risks.
Key Responsibilities
Origination & Business Development
Originate, structure, and execute transactions across targeted geographies as agreed with Head of BD/SG Manager
Onboard new counterparties, nurturing and maintaining strong customer relationships
Collaborate with traders to handle tenders with national oil companies (NOCs) and private corporations
Initiate, develop, and structure new business opportunities to support Ampol’s asset‐backed trading ambitions
Evaluate and provide high‐quality insights on potential revenue and investment decisions, ensuring deals align with group policy
Source physical products and arrange necessary logistical support to optimize trade execution.
Manage internal decision‐making processes and lead complex negotiations (in conjunction with Head of BD)
Assess and mitigate risks associated with transactions and business opportunities
Support the Traders in trading physical cargoes from term contracts or spot purchases within Asia‐Pacific and internationally.
Identify trading opportunities within Ampol’s global portfolio, focusing on physical oil and gas and financial derivative instruments.
Negotiate short and long‐term supply agreements
Implement risk management strategies for physical exposure via financial derivatives
Identify and propose improvements to trading processes, enhancing efficiency and reducing risks
Ensure compliance with daily trading procedures and contribute to cross‐training within the trading team
Qualifications & Experience
Tertiary qualification in business, economics, finance, mathematics, statistics, commerce, science, or engineering
Minimum 7 years of experience in trading or business development in the Oil & Gas sector
Skills & Knowledge
Strategic and business acumen including planning and execution processes.
Ability to establish effective strategic partnerships and relationships across the Ampol Group and with key industry and government entities in a broad range of geographies.
Strong financial analysis, corporate finance and valuation skills.
Strong project management capability, including experience in overseeing due diligence workstreams.
Understanding of compliance regulations in the fields of Competition and Consumer Act (Australia) and Consumer Protection Act (Singapore) and other relevant regulations.
Commercial skills that bring a strong data analysis focus and you can look at performance metrics, key profit and cash flow drivers and balance this with the economic hurdles.
Understanding of the Petroleum Supply Chain process including key drivers of value, in particular integration from supplier to customer.
Understanding of the financial components of oil and gas trading.
Existing network of contacts in the industry to leverage.
Willingness for 30-50% time travelling / counterparty facing.
Knowledge of multiple languages.
