Intro

We are seeking a motivated individual to join our Singapore team and support the delivery of innovative Catastrophe Risk solutions.

You will be able to analyse and validate results from our probabilistic CAT models, leverage Artificial Intelligence (AI) and advanced analytics to enhance Flood Modelling and work with a dynamic range of clients and experienced individuals.

Your role

In any given week you may be working on a range of client projects as well as longer term internal development projects for the company.

This position will include working closely with colleagues from a variety of teams across the company including product development teams and our sister companies in JBA Group.

The role sits within the JBA Risk Management Singapore office and requires a candidate with strong technical skills capable of multi-tasking time sensitive projects in any given week.

Work can involve a mix of data analytics and statistics, interpreting large and complex datasets, utilizing GIS tools, and report writing as the candidate provides dedicated support to projects in areas including (but not limited to) catastrophe modelling and flood risk assessment.

The team member we're looking for

Interactions with JBA's global client base takes place on a daily basis and the candidate will be expected to present technical work to clients eventually.

As our work involves managing multiple project deadlines, this position will suit someone who picks up new skills quickly, is enthusiastic, organised, and a strong team player.

We are looking for an individual with an undergraduate (and preferably) a post graduate degree related to either Hydrology, Geographical Information Systems, Mathematics, Natural Hazards, Meteorology, Earth Sciences, Data Science and ML/AI or similar disciplines.

While this is an entry-level/junior role, working experience in a related field is ideal.

Essential

  • Undergraduate degree in related discipline.

  • Interest in the Natural Hazards and Catastrophe Modelling.

  • Professional demeanour with strong interpersonal skills, demonstrable ability to interact with colleagues across a wide range of seniority and knowledge.

  • Demonstrable ability to understand and communicate technical concepts in person and in writing.

  • Strong time management skills with experience in organising and prioritizing tasks independently.

  • Ability to distinguish important from unimportant details and work in a focussed manner on those details that matter.

  • Experience of teamwork/collaborative environments both in person and via collaboration technologies.

  • Experience with GIS platforms is important (e.g. QGIS, ArcMap).

  • Experienced user of Microsoft Excel (e.g. pivot tables, vlookups).

  • Competent use in core MS Office 365 suite of tools (e.g. Outlook, Word, Powerpoint, OneNote, Teams).

Desirable

  • Postgraduate degree in related discipline.

  • Prior experience of modelling Natural Hazards in the context of Re/Insurance applications
  • Basic coding experience e.g. Python, R, SQL.

  • Experience of Linux command line with scripting.

  • Familiarity with AI fundamentals like Convolutional Neural Networks, Data Preprocessing, Feature Engineering and their application for climate and weather simulations

Training will be provided where necessary.
