Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Commodities Trader to join our team in Singapore.
The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in physical and/or derivatives trading, with a deep understanding of the global metals and minerals markets.
This role is crucial for executing trading strategies, managing risk, and expanding our market presence in line with our client's strategic objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute physical and derivatives trades for a range of commodities, including but not limited to iron ore, copper, steel, and other non-ferrous metals.
- Develop and implement profitable trading strategies by conducting in-depth market research and analysis of supply and demand dynamics, macroeconomic trends, and geopolitical events.
- Manage a trading book, ensuring positions and exposures are within established risk limits and compliance guidelines.
- Actively monitor market movements, analyze technical and fundamental data, and provide timely insights and market commentary to the team.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with global suppliers, clients, and industry stakeholders.
- Negotiate and execute trade contracts, managing the end-to-end trading process from deal origination to settlement.
- Collaborate with internal teams, including logistics, risk management, and finance, to ensure seamless execution and accurate reporting.
- Assist in identifying and evaluating new business opportunities and strategic investments.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Business, or a related quantitative field.
A Master's degree or professional certifications (e.g., CFA) are a plus.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a Commodities Trader, preferably with a focus on metals or other hard commodities.
- Proven track record of managing a profitable trading book.
- Exceptional analytical and quantitative skills, with a strong ability to interpret complex data and market information.
- Deep knowledge of commodity trading principles, risk management techniques, and financial instruments.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain professional relationships.
- Ability to make quick, informed decisions under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in financial software and trading platforms (e.g., Bloomberg, Reuters).
Fluency in English is required; proficiency in Mandarin Chinese is advantageous to liaise with stakeholders in the head office and wider client group.
