This is one role that offers an opportunity to become involved in a number of disciplines, especially if you happen to be working for a large organisation.

If you’re looking to make your mark as a Country Manager or to enhance the track record you’ve already created, you can expect to have a hands-on presence across several departments right from the start.

The role of Country Manager will change a little from company to company, of course, but the general principles remain the same.

The main thrust of the job will be to develop business and nurture relationships in a specific country or region, and in many cases that particular market will be a relatively new one for your company to become involved with.

You’ll have a great deal of responsibility in this role, and your remit could cover a number of areas, including:

  • Logistics
  • Marketing
  • Business analysis
  • Recruitment
  • Brand strategies
  • Operational planning

As well as being a hugely important individual with a hectic working day, you’ll also be something of a figurehead, an ambassador for your organisation in that particular country.

You’ll need a diverse range of qualities, such as being a problem solver, an analytical thinker, a firm decision-maker and a strategic thinker.

And never forget that what might have worked well in Jordan could be completely inappropriate in Japan.

There was a time when Country Managers were relatively rare, only to be found in a handful of large world-leading companies, but these days a vast array of organisations have expanded into international business.

You’ll find Country Managers in almost all sectors of industry, including banking, insurance, investments, construction, transport, healthcare, telecommunications and so many more.

More global expansion, more Country Managers

Singapore has become a powerful economic powerhouse in recent times, so it comes as no surprise to hear that most of the world’s most prestigious brand names have established bases here.

The need to appoint top quality Country Managers has intensified over the last decade or more, so the job market is a pleasingly hectic one, offering a great range of attractive roles for the right people.

A Country Manager can expect to command an excellent salary package, and of course will need to be able to travel a great deal in any given year.

The work will be hectic at times, as you might expect, but the rewards make the effort worthwhile.

This is a role that commands respect, and that has a great deal of influence over the future success of the company.

Here in Singapore, there’s a very pleasant lifestyle waiting to be savoured, one that has attracted experienced professionals from all over the world to work in all business sectors.

If you’ve been thinking about taking your career path to Singapore in particular or South-East Asia in general, now could be the perfect time to make it happen.
