Job Purpose

NUS IT is the IT department of NUS, we develop solutions that are used by students, staff, as well as other visitors that serve to further NUS education needs and vision.

We are seeking an experienced Data Architect to oversee technical data architecture and data governance technical architecture in NUS.

The role will manage the technical architecture of our data platforms as well the solution architecture of data related solutions.

This role will also champion the proper implementation and adherence to best practices across all stages of the data platform delivery lifecycle.

This is a hands-on individual contributor role, and the candidate should have recent hands-on development experience.

Duties and Responsibilities

Data Platform Technical Architecture

• Architect, develop, and maintain scalable and reliable data pipeline infrastructure.
  
  
• Understand technical architecture of data related platforms and provide advisory to other teams.
  
  
• Design the architecture required for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data from data sources.
  
  
• Ensure high availability, disaster recovery, and performance of data platforms.
  
  
• Design the solution for a modern data platform, including aspects like master data management, data lake house, data pipelines.
  
  
• Define and champion the direction for data platforms and their technologies, including their framework, architecture, standards, and guidelines.
  
  
• Evaluate and select appropriate technologies and tools to meet current and future data needs.
  
  
• Integrate new data technologies into existing architectures, ensuring seamless interoperability.
  
  

Data Governance Technical Architecture

• Design and implement the technical framework required to ensure data quality, security, privacy, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  
  
• Develop and maintain metadata management solutions, including data catalogues, lineage, and classification.
  
  
• Collaborate with data governance to ensure technical solutions align with governance objectives.
  
  
• Support implementation of data access controls, auditing, and monitoring to safeguard sensitive information.
  
  

Technical Expertise

• Stay updated about emerging technologies and industry trends to drive innovation within our organization.
  
  
• Serve as a subject matter expert for complex data-related technical issues.
  
  

Organizational Collaboration

• Provide technical guidance and expertise to teams, helping to solve complex technical challenges.
  
  
• Collaborate with engineering teams, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and excellence.
  
  
• Provide direction and guidance to teams working with the data platform.
  
  
• Collaborate with university departments on any technical solutioning required to support data platform requirements.
  
  
• Document data platform architectures and ensure documentation is current and accessible.
  
  

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or master’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  
  
• Minimum of 8 years of experience, with a focus on data platforms architecture and engineering.
  
  
• Proven ability to work with cross-functional teams, promoting collaboration and achieving the objectives of programme and initiatives.
  
  
• Exceptional problem-solving and critical-thinking skills, with a track record of effectively addressing technical challenges and risk mitigation.
  
  
• Demonstrated strategic thinking and planning abilities, capable of aligning technical projects with organizational goals and market demands.
  
  
• Relevant experience in designing, developing, and supporting data platforms, having successfully completed projects in data projects delivery.
  
  
• Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to interact and communicate effectively with all levels of management, users, and vendors.
  
  
• Must be a good team player, highly organized, proactive, and adaptable, with a can-do attitude.
  
  

Technical Expertise

• Strong working experience in end-to-end development of data lakes and data warehouses, preferably with experience in Informatica.
  
  
• Working experience in Azure cloud.
  
  
• Strong working experience in Azure Fabric – specifically Data Factory, Data Engineering, Data Warehouse and Data Lake Storage.
  
  
• Working experience in big data and DataSecOps is an added advantage.
  
  
• Experience in MS SQL and Oracle, including querying and tuning large, complex data sets and performance analysis is preferred.
  
  
• Experience with metadata management, data lineage, and data cataloguing tools.
  
  
• Solid understanding of data governance principles, including data quality, security, privacy, and compliance (e.g., GDPR, PDPA).
