Data Center Facility QA/QC Engineer, Infrastructure Engineering Global Operations Singapore Regular

Job description

Responsibilities
Implement and uphold QA/QC standards: Enforce the company’s QA/QC program on construction sites, utilizing standardized checklists and acceptance criteria to verify that all work meets design specifications and quality standards.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams: Work closely with data center design engineers, project delivery managers, and commissioning teams to ensure facility construction and commissioning activities align with operational requirements and best practices.

Review designs for operability: Evaluate data center MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) designs and other relevant discipline plans for new builds and data hall fit-outs, providing feedback from an operations perspective to improve maintainability and reliability.

Audit colocation partner projects: Regularly audit and review our colocation partners’ data center design, construction, and commissioning plans to verify they meet our quality and reliability standards.

Collaborate with partners to address any identified gaps.

On-site QA/QC inspections: Participate in construction site walkdowns and quality inspections, identifying workmanship issues or deviations from specifications.

Provide timely feedback and punch-list items to internal stakeholders (e.g., Data Center Delivery Project Managers and Commissioning Leads) to drive corrective actions.

Support testing & commissioning: Actively participate in equipment testing and commissioning reviews to ensure that the proper level of testing (L1 to L5 commissioning tests) is planned and executed for validating the design intent.

Verify that critical systems (power, cooling, controls, and life safety) are tested and functioning according to requirements before handover.

Track issues and report progress: Support the commissioning lead in tracking all construction quality and commissioning issues.

Document QA/QC findings, maintain logs of non-conformance reports (NCRs), and provide regular updates and reports on quality status to project stakeholders.

Drive punch-list closure: Oversee the resolution of all punch-list items and quality deficiencies, ensuring they are addressed in a timely manner.

Drive the closure of outstanding issues to enable an expeditious turnover to the Operations team.

Verify handover readiness: Review the final turnover documentation packages for completeness and accuracy, confirming that all required test reports, certifications, as-built drawings, and O&M documents are in place to support a smooth transition of the facility to Operations.

Stakeholder communication: Maintain positive and collaborative working relationships with all parties involved, including internal partner teams, general contractors, vendors, and consultants, to foster a culture of quality and excellence.

Clearly communicate expectations and findings, and work together to resolve issues promptly.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Education & Experience: Diploma or professional certification in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline, with 3+ years of relevant experience in construction or commissioning of critical facilities (data centers preferred).

Power and Cooling Knowledge: Familiarity with standard data center power and cooling calculations and design benchmarks (e.g., TIA-942 guidelines, ASHRAE thermal standards for data centers).

Able to interpret capacity requirements and load calculations.

Power Redundancy Expertise: Experience with power redundancy architectures and their implementation in design (e.g., understanding 2N, N+1 distributed redundant power systems and how they impact uptime).

Cooling Redundancy & Maintainability: Understanding of cooling system redundancy and concurrent maintainability in designs (e.g., N+1 or N+2 configurations for chillers/CRAH units, and how they allow maintenance without downtime).

Hands-on Construction & Commissioning: Experience in the following areas: supervision of data hall fit-out construction activities, including coordinating IT infrastructure installation, power distribution, and cooling system deployment according to plan; managing or closely working with testing and commissioning teams to perform Level 1 through Level 5 commissioning tests, validating that systems meet the design intent, and troubleshooting any technical problems.

Equipment Knowledge: Practical engineering knowledge of major electrical and mechanical systems commonly found in data centers – for example, backup generators and fuel systems, UPS systems and electrical switchgear/sub-panels, cooling towers and chillers, CRAC/CRAH units, fire suppression systems, etc.

Preferred Qualifications
Adaptability: A high level of agility and organization – able to prioritize work and adjust to changing project needs in a fast-paced environment with significant ambiguity.

Vendor/Project Management: Experience engaging with external vendors, contractors, or managing projects/programs in a large-scale construction or infrastructure environment.

Proven ability to collaborate across organizational boundaries and drive outcomes.

Problem Solving & Judgment: Demonstrated sound judgment and a calculated, risk-aware approach to decision-making when facing uncertainties.

Capable of identifying potential quality risks early and recommending effective mitigation or corrective actions.

Continuous Improvement: Passion for continuous improvement of processes.

Experience capturing lessons learned from projects and contributing to the development of better QA/QC practices or standards is a plus.

Certifications (Optional): Relevant professional certifications in quality or project management (such as Certified Quality Manager, ISO 9001 Auditor, or PMP) are advantageous, as is familiarity with international data center standards and uptime tier guidelines.
