About the Role
Singapore's premier business daily, The Business Times, is looking for a talented, driven and digitally-savvy candidate to oversee the opinion and features sections.
You will commission pieces that reflect the issues and topics of the day, with the aim of providing a spectrum of perspectives.
This position requires a background in commentary writing and copyediting, as well as an understanding of geopolitical sensitivities.
You will work with other journalists and contributors on stories, assisting with the flow and logic of their arguments, as well as ensuring the required context is presented.
You will also curate articles from external content pools, cutting across a range of news topics and geographies that will be relevant to the business and financial communities.
The ideal candidate should have experience in business journalism, is a news junkie and has an understanding of Singapore’s political and cultural contexts.
The candidate should have experience working in a cross-generational newsroom of content producers, including writers, visual artists, sub-editors, and social media specialists.
Job Requirements
Relevant degree in economics, business, finance, political science or any relevant fields
At least 8 years of reporting and writing experience, preferably with an emphasis on economics, politics or international relations.
Experience in the opinion section of a reputable newspaper or media organisation would be a plus.
Familiarity with Singapore's stance, contexts and trade-offs on subjects of national interests including, but not limited to, economic and social issues
Ability to work with a network of contributors and freelancers
Strong command of written and spoken English, with a high proficiency in copyediting and crafting digital headlines.
Familiarity with an Asian language is a plus but not compulsory.
The ability to work under deadline pressure
Comfortable with working both independently and collaboratively
