CNA is looking for an experienced editor to lead and shape the daily operations of CNA's digital news desk - driving coverage decisions, managing live and breaking news, and ensuring our journalism is accurate, timely and of the highest editorial quality.
This role blends the skills of a traditional newsroom editor with the strategic mindset of a digital audience and platform specialist, ensuring our stories not only meet journalistic standards but also reach and engage audiences across platforms.
Responsibilities
- Identify key news developments in Singapore and overseas.
- Ensure such developments are covered appropriately, whether through original reporting, agency copy, visual material or a combination of all of these.
- Oversee live blogging coverage for breaking news and major events, coordinating updates, visuals and interactive elements to deliver compelling, real-time storytelling.
- Assign articles to journalists on the news desk, providing clear editorial direction and coordinating with visual, multimedia and social teams to ensure integrated storytelling.
- Conceptualise and see through to publication additional landing points for the most important and popular stories, including explainers, listicles, sidebars and videos.
- Edit stories so that they are of the highest editorial and language standards, and are aligned with CNA's house style.
- Work with other editors on the news desk to ensure coverage is accurate, contextual, timely and audience-focused.
- Monitor how articles are performing on the website and social media, and make adjustments – from headline rewrites to improved placement and social treatments – to maximise reach and impact.
Qualifications
- At least 5 years of editorial experience, ideally across multiple newsroom environments (digital, TV or print).
- A deep knowledge of how content needs to be shaped in different ways for various types of news platforms and social media.
- A driven self-starter who can help the team to achieve key goals.
- Extensive knowledge of the Singapore and regional news agenda.
- Ability to work accurately and effectively under deadline pressure.
- A willingness to work irregular hours, including some weekends and public holidays.
