Job Title: Fire Lab Engineer
Department: Fire Testing Laboratory Reports To: Laboratory Manager / Divisional Director
Job Summary:
The Fire Lab Engineer is responsible for planning, executing, and documenting fire tests in accordance with international standards such as ASTM, ISO, BS, EN, and local regulations.
The role involves hands-on operation of test equipment, data acquisition, safety monitoring, and technical reporting.
The engineer ensures the accuracy, repeatability, and compliance of all testing procedures and contributes to continuous improvement and quality assurance efforts within the fire testing laboratory.
Key Responsibilities:
• Review test requests and ensure samples are prepared in accordance with relevant standards or supervise technicians in sample preparation.
• Set up, operate, and monitor laboratory equipment and instruments to ensure accurate testing conditions and data collection.
• Communicate directly with clients to understand their testing needs, clarify technical requirements, and resolve any queries.
• Interpret and implement updates or changes in international standards and local regulations, including government requirements.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of fire testing standards and ensure laboratory practices are aligned with the latest guidelines.
• Prepare accurate and timely technical reports based on test observations and results.
• Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental (HSE) protocols during testing activities.
• Support accreditation and certification processes and assist in maintaining audit readiness and documentation.
• Support internal audits, quality assurance activities, and contribute to continuous improvement of lab processes.
• Provide guidance and training to junior technicians or new staff when required.
• Work on a flexible schedule depending on test durations and client deadlines.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related technical field.
• Knowledge of fire testing standards (e.g., ASTM, BS, ISO, SS) is an advantage.
• Familiarity with basic laboratory equipment and data acquisition systems preferred.
• Good analytical skills and interest in testing, safety, and technical reporting.
• Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
