Job Description
My client is seeking an experienced and visionary leader to join their team as Head of Department (Special Education).
This role is instrumental in shaping curriculum, fostering teacher growth, and ensuring holistic development of students through strong collaboration with families, allied professionals, and the wider community.
Key Responsibilities
Curriculum & Instructional Excellence
- Develop the vision, educational goals, and curriculum priorities for assigned domain/level/track.
- Plan, implement, and evaluate school-based curriculum/programmes.
- Customise curriculum, pedagogy, and assessments to enhance student learning.
- Lead frameworks for monitoring instructional practices and student progress.
Holistic Student Development
- Integrate IEP/ITP goals into lesson planning.
- Partner with families and allied professionals to support outcomes.
- Develop programmes for character building and socio-emotional skills.
Professional Development
- Design professional development roadmaps and in-house programmes.
- Facilitate learning communities in the SPED sector.
- Model continuous learning and growth.
Mentorship & People Development
- Mentor and coach Teachers for reflective practice and performance improvement.
- Evaluate performance and support skill development.
Projects, Partnerships & Stakeholder Engagement
- Lead cross-functional programmes and initiatives.
- Build strong partnerships with families, community, and mainstream partners.
- Develop effective communication materials for stakeholders.
Organisational Leadership
- Foster a culture of integrity, professionalism, and innovation.
- Formulate and evaluate work plans aligned to school vision.
- Manage budgets and resources effectively.
Other Expectations
- Support induction programmes for new staff.
- Assist in recruitment and selection of Teachers and Assistants.
- Contribute to organisation-wide initiatives.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree (preferably in Special Education).
- At least 5 years of relevant experience, with 2+ years in a Senior Teacher role.
- Experience working with persons with disabilities is advantageous.
- Strong leadership, mentoring, and stakeholder management skills.
- Exemplary role model aligned with values of integrity, service, and collaboration.
