Description
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Planning & System Oversight: Develop long-term infrastructure strategies and manage the full lifecycle of AS400 systems, including hardware, software, and network components
- Performance & Capacity Management: Monitor, tune, and forecast system performance to ensure reliability, availability, and future scalability
- Security & Compliance: Implement security protocols and maintain regulatory compliance across the IBM iSeries environment
- Project & Vendor Management: Lead infrastructure projects such as upgrades and migrations while managing vendor relationships and service quality
- Cross-Team Collaboration: Work closely with application teams, business users, and project managers to align IT services with business needs
- Troubleshooting & Disaster Recovery: Provide Tier 3 support, resolve system issues, manage backups, and maintain tested disaster recovery plans
- Team Leading & Documentation: Mentor junior staff, provide training, and maintain accurate system documentation and procedures
Profile
A successful candidate should have:
- Bachelor's degree in IT, Computer Science, or equivalent
- At least 10 years as an AS400 Administrator or similar
- Deep knowledge of IBM iSeries hardware, OS400, related software, SQL, CL, and tools like IBM iDoctor, Performance Manager, and Job Watcher
- Understanding of iSeries application structures, installation, troubleshooting, replication (CDC, iCluster), scheduling (ROBOT), backup (BRMS), and encryption (SKLM)
- IBM iSeries or ITIL certifications, experience in regulated industries, and familiarity with hybrid/cloud iSeries integrations
- Strong grasp of IT policies, procedures, security best practices, and experience implementing measures to maintain compliance
- Excellent troubleshooting skills for data, application, and system performance issues, with the ability to manage multiple initiatives
- Mature leadership capabilities, mentoring technical staff, and effective communication with teams and stakeholders
- Willingness to work after hours, weekends, or on standby for deployments and critical issues
