(What the role is)

Internship at the Climate Change in Southeast Asia Programme (CCSEAP)

The CCSEAP was established in 2020 to examine the phenomenon of climate change, its impact, and policy responses across the region and in key Southeast Asian countries.

The Programme seeks to cultivate a network of scholars at the forefront of climate change research, particularly in the areas of regional climate policy, energy transition, and agriculture and food security.

It aims to build on ISEAS' thought leadership by advancing climate discourse and knowledge in Southeast Asia through a series of publications and seminars.

(What you will be working on)

Job Description

The intern will support research into climate innovation across Southeast Asia, with a primary focus on actors, developments, policy trends, and technological advances in Indonesia and Vietnam.

Key tasks will include conducting desk research to map the landscape of climate innovation, as well as identifying major projects, government initiatives, and emerging technologies critical to low-carbon transition efforts in both countries.

The intern will also be responsible for identifying and profiling key experts and organisations driving climate innovation and sustainable development in the region, such as notable policymakers, startup founders, policy analysts, and members of the climate tech ecosystem—individuals and organisations at the forefront of sustainable development and climate leadership in Southeast Asia.

This research will help map influential networks, policy champions, and collaborative initiatives that shape the region's climate innovation pipeline and public sector transformation.

The intern will also assist with other research projects and publications conducted by the Programme.

The intern will participate in the following tasks:

  • Assist in identifying potential research collaborators;
  • Assist in conducting literature reviews, background research, transcribing interviews, and supporting data visualisation and analysis;
  • Assist with various administrative and editorial tasks;
  • Assist with preparing presentations.

(What we are looking for)

Internship Period

  • November 2025 – January 2026 (potentially renewable for a further three months).

Requirements

  • Post-graduate with research interests in climate change, environmental protection, and sustainability in Southeast Asia;
  • Good analytical, organisational, and writing skills;
  • Familiarity with data analytics tools (Excel, Tableau, or GIS) advantageous;
  • Skills in communications; social media engagement and infographics;
    Proficiency in Indonesian or Vietnamese would be an asset.
