Job description

Key Responsibilities

Academic Support

  • Deliver and/or facilitate modules in subject areas such as Business Communication, Digital Media, English for Business, and Professional Writing.

  • Coordinate with Heads of Programme, Module Leaders, and academic teams on lesson planning, assessments, moderation, and grading processes.

  • Monitor student engagement and academic performance, provide timely feedback, advisement, and progression counselling to support learner success.

Academic Quality Assurance

  • Uphold SIM academic policies and quality standards to ensure consistency, fairness, and rigour in teaching, assessment, and grading practices.

  • Participate in academic reviews and contribute to the continuous enhancement of programmes, ensuring alignment with evolving industry trends and future skill requirements.

Administrative Collaboration

  • Liaise with internal departments to support effective delivery of teaching, learning, and assessment operations.

  • Contribute to programme-related documentation, academic reporting, and institutional compliance as required.

Course Design and Development

  • Design, update, and contextualise course materials for face-to-face, blended, and online delivery formats.

  • Integrate applied knowledge, real-world case studies, and interdisciplinary themes (e.g. digital transformation, sustainability, UX communication) to maintain industry relevance and learner engagement.

  • Collaborate with colleagues and subject matter experts to ensure curricular innovation and practical relevance.

Faculty Learning and Development

  • Create and share teaching resources, templates, and good practices to enhance instructional quality across the academic team.

  • Contribute to pedagogical innovation through active participation in faculty learning communities, workshops, onboarding programmes, and academic development events.

  • Provide peer support and consultation on learner-centred teaching strategies, digital tools, and assessment design.

Job Requirements

Academic Education

  • A Master's degree in Communication, Media Studies, Applied Linguistics, English, Education, or a closely related discipline is required.

  • A Doctoral degree will be an advantage, depending on the subject area.

Experience

  • At least 5 years of relevant teaching, training, or curriculum development experience within Institutes of Higher Learning (IHLs) or universities.

  • Demonstrated capability in teaching communication-related subjects such as Academic Writing, Media Studies, Professional Communication, or Workplace Literacy.

  • Proven knowledge of curriculum design, instructional strategies, and adult learning principles.

  • Experience working collaboratively with academic teams and/or industry experts to develop practical, applied, and future-focused content.

  • Familiarity with blended and online learning environments, including use of educational technologies (e.g. LMS platforms, video conferencing tools, e-assessment systems) to support learner engagement.

Skills

  • Strong ability to work independently and collaboratively across academic and administrative functions.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage and support diverse learners and colleagues.

  • Proficient in learning management systems, e-learning tools, and digital content creation for teaching.

  • Effective time management and organisational skills, with the capacity to manage academic and administrative responsibilities simultaneously.
