Job Description

The Research Manager for Heart-Brain Health and Science of Care is responsible for driving the research strategy and execution of Principal Investigator's research initiatives at Alice Lee Centre for Nursing Studies.

As the lead administrator, the incumbent will play a key role in shaping and expanding the PI's research portfolio, ensuring alignment with institutional goals and funding priorities.

The Research Manager is expected to provide high-level strategic oversight, establish and manage multi-institutional collaborations, and secure competitive research funding.

  1. Plan, develop and implement research related workplans aligned to the Department's and School's research strategy
  2. Conduct landscape analyses to identify emerging trends and opportunities that can influence strategic research directions
  3. Assist in the establishment of collaborations with other researchers, institutions, or industry partners to enhance PI's research projects
  4. Develop communication strategies to disseminate research findings and highlight the strategic value of research activities
  5. Advise PI in local and institutional research compliance and ethics regulations
  6. Support the PI in identifying potential funding opportunities, helping with administrative preparation and submission, and ensuring compliance with funding agency guidelines and deadlines
  7. Lead a research team of Research Assistants, students and interns in providing excellent administration and timeliness in meeting deadlines
  8. Timely budget tracking and financial reporting to PI
  9. Efficient recruitment, onboarding, and management of research staff
  10. Negotiation and execution of research contracts and MOUs
  11. Organization of research symposiums, workshops, and stakeholder engagement events

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in relevant disciplines (e.g., Life Sciences, Health & Social Sciences, Business Administration, Public Health, Epidemiology, Biostatistics)
  • Minimum 6-8 years of relevant experience in research management, project coordination, or research administration, preferably in healthcare, academic, or public health settings.

  • Strong leadership and project management skills, with the ability to oversee multiple projects and ensure timely execution.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and proactive in problem-solving and decision-making.

  • Ability to work independently while maintaining strong collaboration with research teams and institutional partners.

  • Familiarity with grant applications, research ethics compliance, and institutional review processes (e.g., IRB/DSRB requirements).

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and research management systems.

  • Experience in administrative and operational research management, including budgeting, procurement, and financial tracking.

  • Knowledge of IRB/DSRB/ECOS applications, research ethics regulations, and institutional compliance requirements.

  • Ability to coordinate and support multi-institutional collaborations involving local and international research entities.

  • Familiarity with data management, security protocols, and regulatory guidelines related to research projects.

  • Experience in organizing research events, workshops, and symposiums to facilitate knowledge sharing and stakeholder engagement.
