This role is critical in ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of the assigned fleet, working closely with seagoing staff, ship management teams, and regulatory authorities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the day-to-day marine operations of assigned vessels, ensuring compliance with company policies, flag state, port state, and international regulations (e.g. ISM, ISPS, MARPOL, SOLAS).
- Conduct internal audits, inspections, and navigational assessments both onboard and remotely.
- Monitor vessel performance, safety, and navigation standards, providing guidance and corrective actions where required.
- Support incident investigations, root cause analysis, and follow-up on corrective and preventive measures.
- Assist in the implementation and continuous improvement of safety management systems.
- Liaise with Masters and crew, providing support and direction on operational matters.
- Support vetting inspections and ensure readiness for oil major, CDI, or RightShip inspections as applicable.
- Collaborate with other departments (technical, crewing, commercial) to ensure seamless vessel operations.
- Sailing experience as Chief Officer or Master Mariner on relevant vessel types (chemical/product tankers).
- Minimum 3 years' experience in a shore-based Marine Superintendent or similar role preferred.
- Strong understanding of maritime safety regulations, audits, inspections, and vetting processes.
- Effective communicator with the ability to work cross-functionally and with multicultural crews.
- Willingness to travel for vessel visits and inspections as required.
