Job description

We currently have one (1) Fixed-term, Full-time Vacancy available for immediate filling for a period of up to 36 months with the possibility of extension.

About the role

This role is part of a fully funded project focused on the evolution, taxonomy, and systematics of ground beetles (Carabidae) with emphasis on the Pilbara region of Western Australia (WA).

The successful applicant will collaborate with colleagues to generate molecular datasets, develop specimen processing and analytical pipelines combining morphology and genomics, explore evolutionary questions from a macroevolutionary perspective, and publish results in peer-reviewed publications.

The position will work closely with a PhD student, helping train them in molecular methodology, phylogenetics and associated analyses.

Experience in beetle systematics, though beneficial, is not necessary.

Location

This position is located at the WA Museum's Collections and Research Centre in Welshpool, WA 6106.

About you

The successful applicant will be expected to:

  • Coordinate phylogenetic research into the Carabidae fauna of Western Australia, with a focus on the Pilbara region of WA.

  • Collaborate with colleagues in generating molecular datasets and the development of specimen processing and analytical pipelines combining morphology and genomics.

  • Advise post-graduate students, particularly in molecular lab methods and phylogenetic analyses.

  • Contribute to the preparation and publication of scientific manuscripts.

  • Communicate results via verbal and written presentations, including presenting updates to stakeholders (e.g. funders) via regular progress reports.
