Overview
The Network and Hardware Engineer will be responsible for performing on-site server maintenance and hardware replacement activities on shop floors.
This role requires adherence to established maintenance guidelines and processes to ensure the optimal performance and reliability of server infrastructure.
Responsibilities
- Fully support, configure, maintain, and upgrade networks and in-house servers.
- Install and integrate new server hardware and applications.
- Perform physical inspection of server components and replace defective hardware as required.
- Conduct regular maintenance activities, including upgrading server BIOS firmware and applying necessary patches, as per organizational guidelines.
- Ensure that all server maintenance tasks are planned and scheduled to minimize business impact.
- Coordinate logistics for defective hardware replacement and ensure material collection by vendors.
- Monitor server health using enterprise server monitoring tools and address deviations from normal operation.
- Maintain complete hardware and software configuration records.
- Ensure compliance with maintenance agreements and renewals for server AMC (Annual Maintenance Contracts).
- Collaborate with vendors and stakeholders to execute maintenance and repair activities effectively.
- Ensure data storage networks work properly.
- Ensure network security and connectivity.
- Operate master consoles to monitor the performance of computer systems and networks, coordinate computer network access and use and test for weaknesses.
- Work with IT support personnel.
- Perform routine network startup and shutdown procedures, and maintain control records.
- Analyze equipment performance records to determine the need for repair or replacement.
- Maintain logs related to network functions, as well as maintenance and repair records.
- Maintain complete hardware and software configuration records.
- Keep spares of critical equipment or have comprehensive maintenance agreements.
- Ensure secure installation and management of equipment/software providing network access with necessary approvals.
Required Skills and Competencies
- Strong understanding of server hardware and network infrastructure.
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
- Ability to work in shop floor environments and adhere to safety protocols.
- Familiarity with logistics coordination for hardware replacement.
- Experience in server maintenance, including BIOS firmware upgrades and patch management.
- Ability to set up and configure server hardware.
- Proven experience in a network administrator role.
- Hands-on experience in networking, routing, and switching.
- Knowledge of best practices around management, control, and monitoring of servers.
- Infrastructure.
- Familiarity with backup and recovery software and methodologies.
- Great at organizing, prioritizing, and multitasking.
- The candidate must be able to work under defined conditions and follow stated procedures and guidelines.
