Regional Ocean Freight Trade Lane Manager - Intra APAC & ME
About the role
The Ocean Freight Trade Lane Manager is responsible for developing and executing trade lane strategies through effective rate negotiation, service optimization, and strong partnerships with carriers.

In close collaboration with country, regional, and global teams, the Trade Lane Manager aligns local actions with corporate objectives, contributes to volume and yield targets, and steers product and network development initiatives.

This position is pivotal in gathering and sharing market feedback, identifying business opportunities and enabling sales to win.

The ultimate aim is to deliver on ambitious growth and profitability targets, ensuring GEODIS remains a market leader in ocean freight solutions.


Lead Ocean Carrier Partnerships in the Region
Lead procurement initiatives with ocean carriers in line with the carrier strategy for the trade lanes within scope and in close collaboration with country and global teams.

Identify and share opportunities that will provide value towards Geodis and our customers.


Maintain relevant carrier information that can be utilised in solution design to provide Geodis and our customers a competitive edge over competition.


Empower and coach countries to utilise local relationships with carriers for mutual benefit and intervene when required to resolve more complex challenges with carriers’ regional or head office.

Supporting countries with carrier negotiation on local charges and accessorial charges.


Optimize payment terms and conditions with ocean vendors.


Collaborate with Local, Regional, and Global Teams
Establish and communicate trade lane volume targets for all countries and support the delivery of the targets through regular engagement, performance reviews and coaching for success.


Ensure rules of engagement on our NVOCC (CCL) are known and respected.


Work closely with country teams to build and follow up on customer pipelines (Dry and Reefer).


Align with global teams on the carrier vender strategy ensuring that the APAC + ME carriers are well represented.


Share customer feedback with regional and global teams on strategic trade lanes, FAK (Freight All Kinds) competitiveness.


Drive Performance
Monitor market trends and competitive positioning, including collecting market feedback, pricing, and profit analysis.


Support pricing teams to ensure that we price to win by taking a strategic view to business segments that benefit from investment for long term profitability.


Collaborate closely with all sales teams in region and country, ensuring that they have sufficient product knowledge to support the design of solutions for customers and deliver on volume targets.


Be visible in the countries and ensure that operations are equipped with sufficient knowledge of the trades to meet our customers requirements and deliver satisfaction.


Business Development
Oversee and support the efforts of the Business Development teams through product awareness, pricing, and direct customer interaction.


Contribute to the development of all ocean products; FCL, LCL – Dry and Reefer.


Implement the Blueprint for Success through early identification of target accounts, evaluation of trade‐offs for specific customers and ensuring open, transparent and solution focused communication.


Propose Minimum Selling Rates (MSR) to support sales initiative and ensure GR8 is optimized with buying and selling rates, enabling sales with, auto rating and auto costings.


Proactively identify opportunities for expanding our solutions for our customers covering the complete forwarding portfolio incl origin/destination services.


Encourage colleagues to offer suggestions for improvements and act on these as appropriate with feedback/feedforward.


Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management or related field
Proven experience in ocean freight, trade lane management, or international logistics, with exposure to NVOCC, BCO, and LCL/FCL operations.


Experience in rate negotiation, carrier management, and customer engagement across global trade lanes.


More than 5 years of experience in a management role.


Knowledge of ocean freight industry and processes.


Multi modal knowledge and operational skills.


Strong in interpersonal and communication skills (towards co‐workers, customers, suppliers, etc.).


Financial awareness of the local and global economy and good financial management skills.


Knowledge of service levels expected by clients.
