Global Centre for Maritime Decarbonisation (GCMD)
The Global Centre for Maritime Decarbonisation was established as a non-profit organisation in August 2021 following the recommendation of the International Advisory Panel for Maritime Decarbonisation in 2020.
The mission of this centre is to help the maritime industry eliminate its greenhouse gas emissions by shaping standards, deploying solutions, financing projects and fostering collaboration across sectors.
This centre is strategically located in Singapore, the world’s largest maritime bunkering hub and second largest transhipment container port, and will coordinate regional and global decarbonisation efforts.
The centre has so far raised S$155 million from the Singapore government and the private sector to support its work.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Project Manager is a member of the Research & Projects team and reports to the assigned Director of Research & Projects.
His/her responsibilities include;
•Responsible for the progress of the assigned projects and programs
•Support the Directors of Research & Projects in end-to-end development, scoping work packages across technical, economic and safety aspects of the projects
•Project management
oDesign detailed workplans and monitor progress against them
oManage relationships with stakeholders
oHost periodic stakeholder meetings, take meeting minutes, and deliver internal updates
oEnsure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget
oHelp the Director of Research & Projects coordinate staffing, resources, schedules, and timelines
oOversee all documentation and record keeping
oEnsure proper adherence to the procurement and payment policies and audit requirements
oOptimise and improve processes where necessary
•Facilitate the collation and analysis of project-related data
•Support the completion of the final project report
•Help evaluate project related proposals
•Engage with industry, institutes of higher learning and knowledge centres to keep abreast with developments
•Work closely with relevant government agencies to commence projects/pilots
GCMD employs a number of project managers on the different projects that it has launched.
This specific hire will focus on operationalising ammonia transfer pilots in the port limits of Singapore and elsewhere following the completion of the centre’s ammonia safety study.
Thus familiarity and experience with marine fuels and ammonia handling is a plus.
Job Requirement QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE
•Diploma in Maritime related studies or a degree from recognised institutes of higher learning in Science, Engineering, Economics, Business, or Maritime Studies
•More than 5 years of working experience with at least 3 years in project management, preferably in the maritime, or energy sector
•Having the following will be considered a strength:
oIGC and/or IGF Certification
oSTS and/or bunkering operations experience
oMaritime experience, i.e., Chief engineer, 1st or 2nd engineer
Overall
•Knowledge and experience with management of operational, construction or field work type of projects (maritime, energy)
•Good understanding on maritime decarbonisation related issues
•Strong command of the English language and writing skills
•Strong organizational skills and good attention to detail
•Passionate about sustainability and maritime decarbonisation problem solving
•Must be able to multitask and work well under pressure
•Team player, highly motivated, ability to work independently and confidently
