Position Overview
Nordmann Singapore is a leading producer of raw materials for the global contact and cataract replacement lens industry and we’re currently looking for R&D Project Chemist for new chemicals development for contact lens and other applications mainly in the fields of silicon materials, acrylate and methacrylate and Organo Phosphate ester monomers and related macromers and polymers.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Initiate, design and execute R&D projects (new chemical synthesis programs) at laboratory level.
- Support in the development of viable and cost-effective processes for various Silicone monomers, acrylate and methacrylate, organophosphate ester macromers and polymers.
- Lead R&D projects from development through pilot plant transfer following stage gate process.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams (process, safety, engineer, QC)) and external departments to ensure full production cycle support.
- Prepare and maintain matrix of experiments and proper records.
- Preparation and testing of raw material, in process material and finished product.
- Assist in the maintenance of R&D, production, and quality documentation.
- Maintain day to day operation of the R&D lab equipment ensuring compliance with EHS regulation.
- Able to use QC equipment to support R&D projects up to commercial production scale.
- Continuous overview of new/novel chemistry and developments in contact lenses and other (mainly) polymer applications within the industry.
Position Requirements
- BSc/Honours+ degree in chemistry/polymer chemistry/synthetic organic chemistry with 5 years of relevant industrial experience.
- Experience in and knowledge of acrylate and methacrylate monomer, organophosphate ester synthesis, purification, polymerisation reactions and other relevant or adjacent chemical fields.
- Exposure to short path distillation, wiped film evaporation, ultrafiltration, sterile filtration is preferred but not compulsory.
- A strong interest and experience in kg quantity organic synthesis.
The ability to meet deadlines for R&D projects.
- Knowledge in handling Analytical equipment including but not limited to GPC, HPLC, GC.
- Hands on approach in problem solving and a willingness to work as part of a small team.
- Good computer skills.
