About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Commodity Trader with a strong network and proven track record across Asia.
You will be responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and closing commodity deals while building long-term relationships with suppliers, customers, and logistics partners in the region.
Key Responsibilities:
- Source and trade physical and paper commodities (coal, iron ore) in international market.
- Identify profitable trading opportunities and assess market risks.
- Lead business development efforts by building and nurturing relationships with suppliers, customers, and partners to expand the company's market presence.
- Negotiate contracts, pricing, and terms of delivery in collaboration with logistics and operations teams to ensure smooth execution.
- Monitor and manage logistical operations, including freight, storage, blending, and inventory.
- Collaborate with internal teams (risk, finance, operations) to ensure accurate reporting and settlement.
- Resolve demurrage, claim, and disputes with operations.
- Stay updated with relevant market data, publications, news, and analytics tools
- Monitor market trends, conduct research, and provide strategic insights to support growth.
Requirements:
- Minimum 8 years of experience in physical commodity trading.
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, Engineering, or related field
- Strong knowledge of Incoterms, chartering fundamentals, laycan scheduling, and the handling of demurrage and claims — with the ability to manage and negotiate these elements confidently throughout the trade execution process.
- Solid negotiation, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
- Experience in international trade, logistics, and supply chain operations.
- Strong capability to enhance cost efficiency across the supply chain by optimizing freight, quality, and timing considerations
- Strong operational interface across shipping, contracts, documentation, and settlement.
- Proven track record of profitable trading performance
- Fluent Mandarin/Chinese and English (spoken and written); any additional language is a plus
