Job Description

A Research Assistant (Engineer) position in Prof (Dr) Naresh Kumar's research team, at the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, School of Medicine, National University of Singapore.

The team is committed to develop spinal implant materials and technology toward clinical application.

We are seeking a self-motivated candidate to perform quality research in the field of metal additive manufacturing (AM), material characterization, and design for AM.

He/she should possess interest and expertise in at least one of the above-mentioned research areas.

Jobscope

  • Experimental research under the supervision of the PI and supporting research members;
  • Engineering design, fabrication and procurement of laboratory instruments and fixtures.

  • Maintain trial database, should be able to analyse data through Statistical Procedures (appointed person will be encouraged and supported for learning appropriate courses in Statistics)

  • Help with DSRB submissions/Reports of the ongoing Medical/Engineering Projects;
  • Provide administrative and secretarial support to the projects, such as organizing regular meetings to maintain regular communication with other members of the research team and collaborate with the multiple departments involved.

    Such meetings may only be possible after office hours or on weekends;

  • Proofreading and language correction for manuscript publications;

  • Oversee the general management of the projects with the Department of Orthopaedics & Department of Mechanical Engineering;

  • Undertake the day to day overseeing the progress of the project at various study sites, e.g. Collaborate with team members at the study sites;
  • Maintain and oversee accounts, procurement and file maintenance for the projects under the PI.

  • Conduct literature searches relevant to the project and for future related projects;
  • Assist in writing Grant proposals;

Qualifications

  • Have a degree from local/foreign universities in the field of Engineering, with expertise and an avid interest in 3D Printing and/or CAD design.

    Second preference would be given to graduates with MBBS degree or other Bachelor's degrees from a reputable university, preferably in Biomedical engineering or life sciences with an interest to quickly learn 3D printing and/or CAD design.

  • Excellent command of appropriate Engineering/Medical Terminology with Proficiency in English language to be able to communicate effectively to write scientific manuscripts and reports;
  • Strong aptitude in research work; Good oral and written communication skills
  • Be able to work on flexible hours (after office hours / weekends) on a mutually acceptable schedule with the PI;

  • Meticulous, well-organized and able to multi-task
