About the Centre for Quantum Technologies (CQT)

The Centre for Quantum Technologies (CQT) in Singapore brings together physicists, computer scientists, and engineers to do basic research on quantum physics and to build devices based on quantum phenomena.

Experts in this new discipline of quantum technologies are applying their discoveries in computing, communications, and sensing.

CQT is hosted by the National University of Singapore, with staff at the Agency for Science, Technology and Research, Nanyang Technological University, and the Singapore University of Technology and Design.

With approximately 200 staff and students, it offers a friendly and international work environment.

Job Description

The Centre for Quantum Technologies (CQT), National University of Singapore, is seeking researchers and engineers to develop next-generation quantum computers based on trapped ions.

Multiple positions are available at different levels with diverse expertise.

This program is funded under the National Quantum Processor Initiative, aiming to develop a full-stack quantum processor based on Yb-Ba ions.

The program leverages the capabilities of existing ion trap groups in CQT to explore scalability.

The centre offers a unique research environment at the intersection of theoretical physics, experimental physics, and computer science, with competitive salaries and collaborative opportunities with academic and industrial partners.

The team will work on building hardware for the ion trap quantum processor, including optical enclosures, custom optomechanical components, and more.

Candidates will be involved in all development stages: defining technical requirements, designing, manufacturing, and integrating mechanical parts.

Job Requirements

We are looking for several mechanical engineers to join our team working on the next-generation ion trap quantum processor.

The candidate should have:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in mechanical engineering or related fields;
  • At least 1-2 years of experience in mechanical design and manufacturing (preferred);
  • Hands-on experience with mechanical design and manufacturing, with the ability to ensure stability under thermal and mechanical stresses, understanding of thermal management and mechanical stability, and knowledge of machine shop capabilities and manufacturing processes;
  • Proficiency with CAD software such as Autodesk Inventor or SolidWorks, and familiarity with COMSOL.
