The scope covers the energy value chain from energy generation to innovative end-use solutions.We are looking for an innovative Research Associate to take on the anticipated challenges that face the largescale deployment of BESS in the future.Key focal areas include:* Control of BESS assets operating within unconventional electrical grids.* Modeling and simulation of BESS within large, interconnected networks.* Diagnostic methods to ascertain BESS state of health and remaining useful life.**Key Responsibilities:*** Development of control methods to enhance BESS performance and provide ancillary grid services.* Modeling and simulation of BESS systems together with large grid models densely populated with inverter based generation / loads.* Testing of BESS systems in high power laboratory environment (1500Vdc, 350kW).* Assembly, commissioning and operation of BESS test facility.
Includes PLC programming, HMI development, commissioning of instrumentation and measurement systems.* Development and verification of test methods to assess battery pack condition and remaining useful life.**Job Requirements:*** Master’s degree in electrical engineering or related field* 5 years of technical hands-on experience in the design, simulation and testing of power electronic converters and battery systems.* Familiarity with BESS standards including UL9540, UL1741, NFPA855 and IEC62933.* Good written and oral communication skills.* Proficiency in power electronic converter design, converter controls, grid integration and electrical power systems.* Proficiency in lithium-ion battery technology and testing at both the cell and pack level.* Familiarity with PLC and rapid controller prototyping (TwinCAT, NI cRIO, dSpace, Typhoon HIL)* Proficiency in circuit and system level simulation (Simulink, PSCAD, PLECS, PSS/E).* Ability to work independently and possess excellent organizational / time management skills.We regret to inform that only shortlisted candidates will be notified.Hiring Institution: NTUNTU is also home to world-class autonomous institutes – the National Institute of Education, S Rajaratnam School of International Studies, Earth Observatory of Singapore, and Singapore Centre for Environmental Life Sciences Engineering – and various leading research centres such as the Nanyang Environment & Water Research Institute (NEWRI) and Energy Research Institute @ NTU ( ).Ranked amongst the world’s top universities by QS, NTU has also been named the world’s top young university for the past seven years.
