Research Engineer/ Fellow (Metabolic Engineering) - AW2

SIT collaborates closely with industry to provide applied research opportunities.

Our research staff develop industry-relevant skills while working on projects.


Role
The main responsibility is to contribute to a project developing yeast and fungi for food ingredients and biochemical production, focusing on:
Metabolic engineering of Yarrowia and Candida yeasts for organic acid production
Designing and optimizing fermentation processes in 10L and 100L stirred tank vessels
Key Responsibilities
Deliver research plans and findings biweekly presentations
Mentor junior research staff and undergraduates
Prepare scientific manuscripts for reports and publications
Assist with grant applications
Support undergraduate labs using research outcomes
Ensure safety and compliance in all research activities
Manage procurement of research materials
Perform other duties as assigned
Job Requirements
PhD in Biochemistry or Biochemical Engineering
At least 1 year experience with metabolic engineering of Yarrowia and Candida yeasts
Experience with bioreactors, HPLC-MS, and GC-MS
Experience in filamentous fungi genetic manipulation is a plus
