We are looking for a Research Fellow to conduct research in the theory and simulation of nanomaterials, with a primary focus on 2D materials.
Topics include but are not limited to: 2D ferroelectrics, 2D multiferroics, topological materials, and moiré superlattices (twistronics).
The role will focus on developing and applying theoretical models and computational quantum chemistry and machine learning methods to uncover novel properties and phenomena in low-dimensional material systems, contributing to NTU's leadership in physics, materials science and engineering research.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct independent and collaborative theoretical and computational research on 2D materials, including ferroelectric, multiferroic, topological, and moiré systems.
- Develop, implement, and apply advanced simulation techniques (e.g., density functional theory, tight-binding, molecular dynamics) to investigate physical properties and phenomena in nanomaterials.
- Analyze and interpret computational results; prepare high-quality manuscripts and research reports.
- Present research findings at group meetings, international conferences, and workshops.
- Mentor and supervise undergraduate and graduate students in research projects.
- Collaborate with experimental groups and external partners to validate and enhance research outcomes.
Job Requirements:
- PhD degree in physics, chemistry, materials science or related field.
- Technical experience in quantum chemistry, condensed matter physics, theoretical materials science.
- Familiarity with quantum chemistry (density functional theory) calculations.
Working knowledge of condensed matter theory and theoretical materials science.
Additional knowledge of areas such as 2D materials, ferroelectricity, multiferroics, topology, as well as other methods, such as molecular dynamics and machine learning methods, would be considered advantageous - Strong programming skills (e.g., Python, Julia, Fortran, C++, MATLAB) and experience with high-performance computing environments
- Demonstrated publication record in reputable peer-reviewed journals
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational abilities
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary research team
