Overview
The Nagarajan Lab is based in the Genome Institute of Singapore (GIS), the national flagship program for genomic sciences in Singapore, with a mission to use genomics to improve public health and national prosperity.
We are seeking passionate scientists who wish to develop innovative methods in the metagenomic assembly field.
Our lab focuses on leveraging new technologies to better study microbial populations and their impact on human health.
We have extensive experience in metagenomic analysis and have developed several widely used tools in this field.
We are now focusing on new methods to obtain a comprehensive catalogue of complete genomes at the strain level from metagenomic samples, which can be further leveraged for comparative genomic analysis.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work in a highly interdisciplinary environment, with unique access to next-generation sequencing technologies and a wide range of samples.
Solutions developed during this project will have direct applications to ongoing and new microbiome research projects in the lab, particularly in studying antimicrobial resistance and skin diseases.
Responsibilities
Develop innovative methods in the metagenomic assembly field and apply them to obtain a comprehensive catalogue of complete genomes at the strain level from metagenomic samples.
Contribute to interdisciplinary research that leverages next-generation sequencing technologies and diverse sample sets.
Apply results to ongoing microbiome research projects, including studies on antimicrobial resistance and skin diseases.
Qualifications
PhD in Computational Biology, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering/Genomics.
Strong analytical and programming skills (Python, C++, UNIX environment).
Candidates with significant experience in assembly algorithms will be strongly preferred.
