INTRODUCTION OF THE POST

The Coordinator is in charge, under the supervision of his Director, of coordinating the specialized daily and ad hoc projects, working group/conferences, and any other file/activity pertaining to the relevant area of work.

The incumbent is also in charge of supervising staff working In this area, of providing them with daily guidance, of ensuring the proper implementation of the policies and hierarchical decisions, and of the quality and timeliness of the produced deliverables, in compliance with the Organization's priorities.

The incumbent is the Organization's central point of contact in the police area at stake, and is expected to provide advice to his Director and his hierarchy regarding the further development of the area, including preparing written analytical/operational studies, status reports, oral presentations/speeches to be delivered during outside conferences, internal/developmental training needs assessments, and any other relevant pro-active issue pertaining to the area.

He/she can be called, upon request, to represent the Organization on the coordinated subject matter.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND ACTIVITIES

DUTY 1

In compliance with the Organization's priorities, management decisions and relevant policies/rules, the incumbent is responsible for implementing and co-ordinating all daily and ad hoc tasks pertaining to the relevant area.

Establish the planning and expected deliverables in order to meet the decisions taken by the

hierarchy in the police area at stake in a timely and efficient manner.

Implement the co-ordination of the missions as approved by the hierarchy, and in compliance with the established planning.

Take charge of the co-ordination of any ad hoc missions, as decided by the hierarchy, to ensure the smooth handling of the relevant area within the Organization.

Pro-actively detect any implementation issue, and suggest to his hierarchy any relevant refinement to the planning and/or workflow organization, in order to ensure the Organization can achieve the expected results in the covered area.

Personally take charge of some of the planned tasks, especially of the utmost complexity with respect to the incumbent specialized expertise in the area.

DUTY 2

The incumbent is in charge of supervising the staff members assigned to the unit.

Provide daily guidance to the unit's staff, in order for the staff to perform the missions as required.

Monitor the quality and timeliness of the Staff's work, in compliance with the planning and any relevant policy/rule.

Identify training needs for the staff to continuously maintain adequate education in connection with the mission bandied.

Assess the unit's staff in a timely and objective manner.

Propose to his hierarchy any refinement of the unit's workflow/ working methods, aiming at constantly improving the outputs produced by the unit.

Monitor the use of human/financial resources and regularly report to the Director/budget holder.

DUTY 3

The incumbent is expected to provide pro-active guidance and sound analytical studies, for his hierarchy's decision, in order to continuously develop the area at stake.

As the Organization's recognized expert in the relevant area, provide sound advice to his hierarchy on any file related to the subject matter.

Prepare/co-ordinate the preparation of written studies for his hierarchy, that can either encompass a status/statistics on the on-going operational/analytical activities of the IBMTF, or advanced trend identification in the relevant area in order to provide a tool helping the hierarchy in orientating the activities in light of the Member Countries' law enforcement agencies' needs.

Prepare oral presentations for his hierarchy or for his own/his staff's delivery during meetings or other conferences, training sessions etc.

Constantly and pro-actively stay abreast of the evolvements in the coordinated area, in order to provide the best possible tailored-made operational service to the Member Countries.

DUTY 4

The incumbent is the central point of contact, both from inside or outside the Organization, with respect to the police area at stake, and can be called upon to represent the Organization in that perspective.

As the primary Organization's expert in the relevant area, must make himself identified as the central point of contact, either from inside the Organization or from outside, for any issue or question pertaining to the area dealt with.

Ensure the efficient and smooth co-ordination with all colleagues/managers from within the Organization, and facilitate the working relationship of his staff members towards other Directorates when necessary.

Provide timely and adequate responses to any specific questions or advice sought by the management, staff or outside partners.

Maintain an appropriate international network of experts in the area dealt with, in order to ensure continuous exchanges on most recent analytical outcomes and on studies regarding operational trends as well.

Can represent the Organization on the specific subject matter, by attending internal meetings or outside conferences/working groups, or by delivering speeches or presentation of specific training sessions when required.

Can coordinate the organization of conferences/working groups on the relevant area, or provide support to other Directorates as far as the subject matter is concerned.

DUTY 5

The incumbent, as the/one of the senior staff member(s) of the Task Force, will be regularly expected to replace his Director to ensure the smooth daily running of the IBMTF in the absence of the latter.

As the/one of the senior staff member(s) under the Director, will be called to act in the absence of the latter, to ensure the smooth running of the IBMTF.

Is expected to co-ordinate his activities and planning in agreement with the Director, to ensure there is no disruption in the service rendered by the IBMTF.

DUTY 6

The incumbent can be asked by his hierarchy to perform any task related to the relevant area, or the IBMTF's mandate, in order to ensure the Organization can continuously provide efficient support to Member Countries' Law enforcement agencies.

QUALIFICATIONS, COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS

Education and qualification required/FORMATION:

Three to four years' education at a University or specialized higher education establishment.

Experience required/EXPÉRIENCE:

Experienced police officer, or official able to demonstrate equivalent professional experience/training in the sector of police area/law enforcement agencies

Five years' experience in the area in question and, where necessary, management experience.

Experience in project management is required

Experience in staff supervision is highly desirable

languages/langues:

Fluency in English is required.

Proficiency in a second official language of the Organization (Arabic, French or Spanish) would be an additional asset.

Abilities required/COMPéTENCES TECHNIQUES:

Experience in working with computers including knowledge of oral presentations software, business intelligence and word processing software.

Strong communication skills, both in written and oral form (public speaking and delivery of presentations).

Good social skills, particularly in a multicultural environment;

Aptitude to work under minimum supervision.

Ability to work in a team as well as individually

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Remuneration: INTERPOL does not pay salary to seconded officials.

    Depending on the nationality of official, an expatriation allowance may be paid for a maximum period of six years.

  • The incumbent will be occasionally required to work irregular hours or overtime based upon workload.

  • This post requires occasional travel on missions, sometimes of a long duration and at a short notice.
