We are seeking an experienced BOOK PRODUCTION EDITOR to be based full-time in our Singapore office.
This person will oversee multiple book projects simultaneously working closely with our overseas and in-house editors, authors, graphic artists, designers, photographers, typesetters and illustrators to shepherd book projects from initial manuscript stage to final print-ready PDF files at an international quality level.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage complete book production lifecycles from manuscript to final print, coordinating with publishers, editors, authors, designers, typesetters, colour separators and others
- Supervise design, typesetting, copyediting, proofreading and quality control; review book proofs for accuracy, quality and consistency
- Manage production schedules, vendor payments and timelines for multiple projects simultaneously
- Oversee digital files and ensure compliance with licensing contracts and copyright requirements
- Mentor junior staff and collaborate across departments with marketing and sales colleagues
- Assist in creating marketing materials, sample spreads, new title information sheets, advance reading copies, covers and catalogue materials as needed
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Experience: Several years of relevant experience in book production editing, preferably in Singapore or Southeast Asia
- Technical: Expert knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Adobe InDesign and Acrobat; proficiency with typesetting and high-quality book design matters; comprehensive knowledge of 1-color and 4-color book printing processes, colour separation and book prepress production workflow
- Editorial: High-level English language proficiency; proofreading skills; familiarity with Chicago/Oxford style guides and American versus British English conventions and spelling
- Project Management: Excellent organizational abilities; experience managing multiple projects within deadlines
- Industry Knowledge: Understanding of book publishing ecosystem, copyright, ISBN and book market dynamics
- Interpersonal: Strong communication and leadership skills; collaborative mindset with cultural sensitivity
