The Senior Executive/Assistant Manager, Technical will manage technical activities, including the operation of all equipment in the facility/ laboratory to ensure the smooth and safe functioning of the laboratory, enabling the faculty, research staff and students to accomplish their research activities safely, effectively and efficiently.
Key responsibilities include:
Manage the daily operations of the facility/ laboratory
Manage day-to-day running and maintenance of equipment.
- Implement periodic preventive maintenance according to planned schedule.
- Liaise with vendors for equipment information and software update.
- Review and update the risk assessment and standard operating procedures of equipment and machines in the laboratory.
- Provide support in space and facility planning during initial set up and in the event of new laboratory developments.
- Conduct quarterly inventory check to ensure that laboratory consumables are in-stock.
- Manage waste disposal process.
- Install and monitor security cameras when necessary.
- Work closely with ODFM to facilitate request for office and lab access.
Manage any IT matters, including IT equipment allocation and support for GPU servers (if required).
Support on-going laboratory activities in research
Assist PIs to set up their equipment in the lab with budgets from the research grants.
- Coordinate activities involving research projects to maximize use of facilities.
- Train researchers and students to operate specialized equipment and machines competently and safely.
Provide logistical support for events and lab visits.
Support procurement and asset management
Collect, evaluate and propose requirements of laboratory materials, components and standard equipment.
- Assist faculty and researchers in sourcing and obtaining quotations for relevant equipment and materials in a timely and efficient manner.
- Monitor, track and update equipment/ asset movement, keep proper records of assets on loan.
Conduct physical assets check to track asset movement.
Ensure that laboratory users comply with safety legislation
Take on the role of Safety Officer to implement all safety policies, guidelines and regulations in the laboratory
- Manage applications for required license/ permits and verify/manage all controlled-item purchases.
- Brief users (faculty, staff, undergraduate and suppliers) on Safety Information to ensure that all safety policies and practices are adopted and adhered to.
Ensure users have gone through the required safety trainings before using specialized equipment.
- Brief and assist new researchers on Risk Management Policy, and keeping and maintaining HS Inventory record
- Plan and execute safety audits, in accordance to NTU Safety guidelines
- Work with all users of the laboratory to minimize operational losses, occupational health problems, accidents and injuries.
Candidates should fulfil the following requirements:
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering with 4 years of experience / Diploma in Mechanical Engineering with 7 years of experience
- Prior hands-on experience in managing lab operations involving equipment operations and maintenance, procurement, safety and asset management.
Experience in managing GPU servers / computing hardware will be advantageous.
- Possesses strong knowledge of statutory safety requirements, lab operations, equipment maintenance, procurement, and asset management, along with proficiency in MS Office.
- Resourceful team player with excellent communication skills, capable of multitasking effectively in a fast-paced environment and approaching challenges with a positive, innovative, and analytical mindset.
