Overview
The Senior Instrument Engineer will be responsible for the comprehensive design, implementation, maintenance, and optimization of instrumentation systems on a Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel in the offshore oil and gas industry.
Responsibilities
- Instrumentation System Design
- Develop detailed instrumentation and control system designs for FPSO facilities
- Create process and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs)
- Specify instrument selection and configuration
- Ensure compliance with industry standards (ISA, IEC, API)
- Technical Specifications
- Prepare technical specifications for instrumentation equipment
- Conduct equipment procurement and vendor evaluation
- Review and approve instrument technical datasheets
- Perform instrument sizing and selection calculations
- Safety and Reliability
- Implement safety instrumented systems (SIS)
- Conduct hazard and operability (HAZOP) studies
- Ensure compliance with safety integrity level (SIL) requirements
- Develop instrument reliability and maintenance strategies
- Field Implementation
- Supervise instrument installation and commissioning
- Perform site acceptance testing
- Coordinate with installation contractors
- Manage instrument calibration and validation processes
- Control Systems Management
- Design and optimize distributed control systems (DCS)
- Develop programmable logic controller (PLC) configurations
- Implement advanced control strategies
- Ensure seamless integration of instrumentation systems
- Performance Optimization
- Conduct performance diagnostics
- Implement predictive maintenance techniques
- Analyze instrument performance data
- Recommend system improvements
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Instrumentation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field
- Minimum 8-10 years of experience in offshore oil and gas instrumentation
- Extensive FPSO or offshore platform experience
- Professional certifications (ISA, IEC) preferred
