As a Software Engineer for Semiconductor Equipment Control Software at Sioux, you are responsible for the entire software engineering process covering software requirements engineering, software design, software construction (implementation), software testing, program analysis, and software maintenance.

Responsibilities
- Collaborating with customers and stakeholders to define product architecture
- Analyze customer needs in software requirement engineering
- Analyze, design, implement, and test the control software
- Conduct peer reviews to ensure product quality
- Lead the development team and ensure team performance
- Work as an integral part of a Scrum team and handle user stories across the full stack
- Develop functionality using Agile practices, emphasizing speed and quality
Job Scope and Technical Stack
Technically, the job scope comprises developing testable, high-quality equipment control software covering the full semiconductor equipment control software stack from low-level FPGA (VHDL) and/or PLC programming to high-level human-machine interface (HMI/UI) development in technologies like WPF or MAUI.
You will collaborate with our algorithm team on integrating AI algorithms into the equipment, requiring an understanding of the ML pipeline, neural networks, deep learning, large language models (LLMs), and a basic understanding of related engineering disciplines.
The role involves leading the Scrum team technically through sprint planning, design reviews, pull request reviews, and design/code refactoring activities, covering the entire software engineering lifecycle.
Layers of development include:
- Hardware abstraction layer to enable a programmable interface for components such as wafer aligners, robot transfer arms, wafer stages, load ports, and I/O for the equipment’s traffic light tower
- Devices and domain layer to model SEMI-compliant state machines for sub-modules including scheduling and wafer handling
- Application layer to support recipe management and system calibration
- UI development compliant with SEMI E95 for diffusion, assembly, and test manufacturing sites
- Infrastructure layer for reading/writing substrate maps, test data files, and checksum handling per SEMI M12
Qualifications and Experience
- Technical background with higher professional or university education in software engineering
- Experience in the semiconductor domain, with understanding of front-end diffusion processes and back-end assembly/testing processes
- Experience developing equipment control applications with PC-based control, embedded controllers, or motion controllers; FPGA/PLC experience is desirable
- Minimum 8 years of experience in object-oriented programming and UML tools; 5+ years in C++ or a systems programming language
- Minimum 8 years in object-oriented analysis and design with common design patterns
- Minimum 8 years in active design refactoring with Clean Code/SOLID principles
- Minimum 5 years leading Scrum development teams with requirements engineering, sprint management, and technical design reviews
- Exposure to wafer fabrication or assembly/testing environments and concepts like preventive maintenance, SPC, and FDC
Desirable Skillset
- Able to handle complex software solutions and manage stakeholders
- Mentor the team and translate customer requirements into system solutions (brown field and green field)
- OOAD experience and architectural splits in front-end and back-end (MVC, MVVM)
- UI experience with WPF; knowledge of its evolution
- Experience with TDD/unit testing (xUnit, Boost.Test) and BDD
- Real-time driver development for RTOS or Windows
- FPGA/VHDL experience or other real-time experience
- Experience with Agile Scrum and Kanban; Git workflows and CI tools
- Familiarity with SEMI standards, including SECS/GEM, GEM300, EDA, and substrate mapping (E142)
