Organisation Context
The Airspace Mobility Solutions (AMS) business, part of the Global Business Unit Land and Air Systems, provides leading edge Air Traffic Management (ATM), Unmanned Traffic Management (UTM), Security and Digital Aviation solutions for the Commercial and Defence sectors.
The AMS business manages 11% of the world’s airspace and with revenues of over 500 million Euros worldwide, is the global market leader in airspace management solutions.
In Singapore, the business focus is the delivery and support of two key ATM solutions including TopSKY‑ATC(HE) and LORADS‑III.
This role will initially support the TopSKY‑ATC (HE) product.
Role Description
The Senior Solution Architect is a key role responsible for defining and delivering a state‑of‑the‑art Air Traffic Solution.
The role includes defining, stabilising and maintaining the solution architecture for bids and projects across all lifecycle phases, ensuring technical excellence and alignment with Thales’ product strategy.
Responsibilities
- Define and propose innovative technical solutions that meet customer requirements and comply with the product/system technical strategy.
- Analyse architectural and technical choices to ensure the best trade‑off between customer requirements, technical solutions, cost and risk.
- Optimise the solution architecture to satisfy product requirements, bringing key architectural drivers to the forefront.
- Explore the solution space to define a set of alternate candidate architectural concepts and perform related trade‑offs, recording all design alternatives and justifying decisions.
- Perform early validation of the architecture, including modelling and proof of concept activities to de‑risk.
- Develop architectural viewpoints, defining system breakdown, leading interface definition, and describing system behaviour through functional flows and dependencies.
- Specify Technical Performance Measurements (TPMs) and support their validation throughout the project lifecycle.
- Document architecture in required artefacts (e.g., Product Breakdown Structure and System of System Design Documentation).
- Stabilise and maintain the solution architecture throughout its lifecycle in cooperation with the Project Design Authority (PDA) and Engineering Delivery Manager (EDM).
- Support the PDA and EDM in the approval of main engineering reviews and deliverables.
- Review key subsystems, including infrastructure, platform and security artefacts, ensuring design meets system requirements.
- Demonstrate that the defined architecture meets requirements relating to performance, safety, security, human factors, ILS, and relevant legislation, rules, regulations and environmental/HSE standards.
- Contribute to the development of architecture policies, processes and procedures to ensure best practice.
- Provide mentoring and support to all personnel involved in architecture activities.
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
- Degree in Engineering, IT or related discipline.
Essential Experience
- 5+ years experience in similar positions on projects delivering complex software‑centric real‑time systems.
- Strong experience in the ATM domain and Air Traffic Management standards (e.g., ICAO, Eurocontrol).
- Demonstrated experience in the design of infrastructure and network architectures.
- Demonstrated experience in the design of secure solution architectures inline with security standards and policies.
- Experience with collective decisions and conflict resolution.
- Capability to manage various stakeholders having different objectives.
- Proven capability to work in a multi‑cultural environment and with international customers.
- Aptitude to work effectively in a multi‑disciplinary integrated team environment.
- Positive attitude combined with excellent interpersonal and motivational skills.
- Sound judgement and independent decision‑making capability where necessary.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
Desirable
- Experience in Modelling Tools (e.g., Capella, Enterprise Architect).
- Experience in System Engineering tools (e.g., DOORS, Jira).
- Experience working in a Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe).
