JOB DESCRIPTION
The Swim Coordinator/Coach is responsible for the expert planning, execution, and supervision of the daily operations of the after-school swimming program, a key component of the school's Co-Curricular Activities (CCA).
This role ensures the delivery of a high-quality aquatic experience tailored to a range of student abilities, from beginners in learn-to-swim classes to advanced swimmers focusing on stroke development.
In addition, the Swim Coordinator will provide professional support to Physical and Health Education (PHE) teachers during the delivery of curriculum-based aquatics lessons.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Developing and implementing a comprehensive training program that aligns with the skill levels and goals of individual swimmers
- Planning and organising practice sessions, including drills, workouts, and skill-building exercises
- Coaching swim squads and/or learn-to-swim programme that may require being present in the water with the learners as instruction may dictate
- Providing hands‑on instruction and feedback on swimming techniques
- Leading a team of after‑school swim coaches and fostering a collaborative team environment
- Maintaining open and effective communication with swimmers, parents, and other coaching staff
- Committing to training during school holidays when necessary
- Ensuring compliance with safety regulations and best practices in swimming coaching
- Handling administrative duties related to the swim program, including scheduling, budgeting, and coordination of events
- Preparing and maintaining appropriate reports; ensuring administration logs and checks are completed and current alongside the Director of EOTC
- Preparing the pool ahead of sessions to ensure a safe, clean and relevant environment; storing equipment and resources to keep the area tidy and safe
- Following all policies and procedures related to keeping children safe in our facilities
- Assisting the Aquatic Director in keeping aquatic resources up to date and in good condition
- Contributing towards the whole‑school team spirit by promoting the philosophy and policies of Nexus International School
- Maintaining constant poolside surveillance of students; acting immediately and appropriately to secure safety in the event of emergency; providing emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical service
- Involvement in whole‑school events and activities as required
- Performing any other duties as assigned by the management, stakeholders and line manager
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
- NROC licence
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead a team and engage positively with young learners
- Experience in an international school environment (preferred)
- Relevant curriculum and coaching experience
- Minimum FINA Level 2 Coach/UKCC Level 2/ASCA Level 2 certified, AUS Swim (or International equivalent) with a minimum of 2 years coaching experience and prior experience in squad planning ideally for competitive level.
- Basic knowledge of Google suite platforms, ACTIVE Hy‑Tek' Swim Software and Team Unify.
