Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Automation Engineer to join our Technology Development Equipment team.
The successful candidate will play a critical role in the set-up, integration, and implementation of automation systems into the production line, including AMR, AGV/MGV, EFEM, stockers, and equipment interface solutions.
This role is key in driving Industry 4.0 initiatives and ensuring smooth operation of material handling automation for high-volume manufacturing.
Responsibilities
Lead the installation, setup, and qualification of automation systems into production lines (AMR/AGV/MGV, stockers, EFEM, and e-racks).
Ensure successful integration of automation equipment with production tools, utilities, and fab MES systems.
Support tool move-in and hook-up activities, ensuring automation readiness during production ramp-up.
Automation & Integration: Develop and maintain equipment interface solutions (SECS/GEM, EFEM, tool-to-tool, and tool-to-AMHS integration).
Coordinate with vendors and internal teams to implement automation hardware and software solutions.
Provide on-site troubleshooting and continuous improvement support for automation systems.
Project Management: Drive automation projects from specification to implementation, including vendor evaluation, FAT/SAT, and production buy-off.
Work with Manufacturing, IT, and Engineering teams to ensure smooth execution during production startup.
Prepare documentation (URS, test plans, SOPs) and ensure compliance with fab standards and safety requirements.
Continuous Improvement: Identify and implement automation solutions to improve production line efficiency, throughput, and reliability.
Participate in Industry 4.0 initiatives such as predictive maintenance, robotics, and data-driven automation.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Automation, Mechatronics, Computer Engineering, or related field.
Minimum 3–5 years of hands-on experience in semiconductor fab automation or similar high-tech production environment.
Strong knowledge of AMR/AGV/MGV systems, stockers, EFEM, e-rack, SECS/GEM protocols, and automation software integration.
Proven experience in production line setup, equipment installation, and system integration.
Familiarity with fab MES systems and SEMI standards is preferred.
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with ability to work under pressure.
Good communication skills in English (Japanese language ability is a plus).

Strong understanding of automation architecture in semiconductor fabs, including host communication and MES connectivity.
Ability to conduct FAT/SAT, system qualification, and production buy-off.
Solid troubleshooting skills in both hardware (robots, sensors, conveyors) and software (communication protocols, system errors).
